Quick answer (updated 16 October 2026): Free PMP practice tests are useful for checking question quality and your starting level, but most are short and few cover the exam that started on 9 July 2026 (180 questions, 240 minutes, PMBOK® 8). Start with free questions written to the 2026 exam content outline, then move to a full simulator for timed, full-length practice in the final weeks.
This page lists free PMP practice questions you can use today, what to check before you trust them, and when it is worth paying for a full simulator.

What to check before you trust a free PMP test
- Is it for the new exam? Questions written before July 2026 weight Business Environment at 8% instead of 26% and use PMBOK 7 terms.
- Are there explanations? A score without explanations tells you little.
- Is it original? Avoid anything sold or shared as “real exam questions”. Using recalled questions breaks PMI’s exam rules.
- Is it long enough? Short quizzes cannot build the stamina for a four-hour, 180-question exam.
How to get the most from a free PMP practice test
Treat a free PMP practice test as a diagnostic, not a verdict. Take it under exam conditions: allow about 80 seconds per question, close your notes and finish in one sitting. Then spend at least as long reviewing as you spent answering. For every miss, note the domain it belongs to (People, Process or Business Environment) and why the correct answer beats the one you chose.
After two or three free tests a pattern appears. If most misses sit in one domain, study that domain in the PMBOK® Guide 8th Edition before your next test. If misses are spread evenly but you run out of time, practise pacing instead. Retaking the same free questions inflates your score because you remember the answers, so move on to fresh questions once you have reviewed a set.
When a paid PMP simulator is worth it
Free questions are ideal at the start. In the final four to six weeks you need several full-length, timed exams with domain score reports, which free tests rarely provide. The Gururo PMP Exam Simulator gives you 40 practice tests and 7,167 questions written for the July 2026 exam, with lifetime access and the PMP study notes and cheat sheet included free. Compare it with other options in our guide to the best PMP exam simulators for 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free PMP exam simulator?
Several providers offer free PMP questions or short practice tests. Full-length, timed 180-question simulators with explanations are usually paid.
Are free PMP practice tests accurate?
Quality varies. Check that the questions are written for the July 2026 exam content outline and include explanations.
How many practice questions should I do before the PMP exam?
Many successful candidates work through well over a thousand practice questions and take several full-length timed exams, reviewing every explanation.
Can I pass the PMP exam with free resources only?
Some candidates do, but free resources rarely include enough full-length timed exams. Most candidates add a paid simulator for the final weeks.
