What project managers are actually paid in Spain, from 555 job adverts collected on 9 October 2026.
The median tells you almost nothing. The band tells you everything.

Half of all advertised roles fall inside the shaded band — a spread of €10,355 for the same job title. If someone quotes you “the average”, they are quoting one point on this line.
Where you sit
| If you earn | You are in the | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Under €71,968 | bottom 25% | Below where a quarter of advertised roles even start |
| €71,968 – €77,146 | lower half | Common, but there is room above you |
| €77,146 – €82,323 | upper half | At or above the typical advertised role |
| Over €82,323 | top 25% | Above where three-quarters of adverts top out |
What the Spanish data actually says
1. Your job title barely affects your pay here
Across 9 job titles, every median sits between €76,839 and €78,485 — a range of €1,646.
Program Manager tops the list and Portfolio Manager sits at the bottom, separated by less than the cost of a modest pay rise. Elsewhere these titles are separated by tens of thousands.
If you are here, chasing a title change for the money is close to pointless. Changing employer, sector or country is what moves the number.
2. There is barely anything to negotiate
The middle half of roles sit between 93% and 107% of the median — a band just 13 points wide.
There is very little room to negotiate within the title. Moving up means changing role, not arguing harder.

How Spain compares
The Spanish median converts to about $86,462, placing it 3rd of the sixteen markets we measured.
Converting at market rates ignores what the money actually buys locally, so treat the ranking as a rough ordering rather than a cost-of-living comparison.
What “Senior” is worth here: +2%
For comparison, the senior title adds 32% in the United States, 23% in the United Kingdom and nothing at all in South Africa. Advice to chase the senior title travels far worse than the people giving it assume.
On pay spread, the interquartile band here is 13 points wide, the tightest of the sixteen markets we measured — against 148 in India, the widest.
If you are underpaid
Knowing the band is the useful part. “The median is €77,146” is a fact. “A quarter of advertised roles start above €82,323” is an argument.
If you are below €71,968 and have been in post two years, the gap is probably not your performance — it is your starting point. Internal pay reviews rarely close a gap that size.
Two things that might help, both free
Benchmark your own salary — tell us your role, country and experience and see where you sit against this dataset. Contributions feed the 2027 edition, which adds practitioner-reported pay alongside advertised pay.
Work out whether the PMP pays for itself — PMI reports a certification premium, and our calculator sets that against the real cost of getting certified, for your salary rather than an average one.
Gururo is a PMI Authorized Training Partner. We sell certification training, so treat that as disclosed interest — both tools above are free and neither requires an account.
What this data is, and what it is not
It is 555 Spanish job adverts collected on 9 October 2026, showing what employers publicly offered.
It is not what people actually earn. Advertised pay excludes bonus, pension and equity, and reflects what employers posted rather than what candidates negotiated. Senior roles filled through networks are never advertised, so they are invisible here by definition.
