What project managers are actually paid in Germany, from 326 job adverts collected on 9 October 2026.
The median tells you almost nothing. The band tells you everything.

Half of all advertised roles fall inside the shaded band — a spread of €18,611 for the same job title. If someone quotes you “the average”, they are quoting one point on this line.
Where you sit
| If you earn | You are in the | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Under €61,863 | bottom 25% | Below where a quarter of advertised roles even start |
| €61,863 – €73,448 | lower half | Common, but there is room above you |
| €73,448 – €80,474 | upper half | At or above the typical advertised role |
| Over €80,474 | top 25% | Above where three-quarters of adverts top out |
What the German data actually says
1. There is barely anything to negotiate
The middle half of roles sit between 84% and 110% of the median — a band just 25 points wide.
There is very little room to negotiate within the title. Moving up means changing role, not arguing harder.

Roles with fewer than 50 adverts are excluded entirely. Advert counts shown in amber are small samples — treat those rows as indicative.
How Germany compares
The German median converts to about $82,318, placing it 4th of the sixteen markets we measured.
Converting at market rates ignores what the money actually buys locally, so treat the ranking as a rough ordering rather than a cost-of-living comparison.
On pay spread, the interquartile band here is 25 points wide as a share of the median — against 148 in India, the widest we measured, and 13 in Spain, the tightest.
If you are underpaid
Knowing the band is the useful part. “The median is €73,448” is a fact. “A quarter of advertised roles start above €80,474” is an argument.
If you are below €61,863 and have been in post two years, the gap is probably not your performance — it is your starting point. Internal pay reviews rarely close a gap that size.
Two things that might help, both free
Benchmark your own salary — tell us your role, country and experience and see where you sit against this dataset. Contributions feed the 2027 edition, which adds practitioner-reported pay alongside advertised pay.
Work out whether the PMP pays for itself — PMI reports a certification premium, and our calculator sets that against the real cost of getting certified, for your salary rather than an average one.
Gururo is a PMI Authorized Training Partner. We sell certification training, so treat that as disclosed interest — both tools above are free and neither requires an account.
What this data is, and what it is not
It is 326 German job adverts collected on 9 October 2026, showing what employers publicly offered.
It is not what people actually earn. Advertised pay excludes bonus, pension and equity, and reflects what employers posted rather than what candidates negotiated. Senior roles filled through networks are never advertised, so they are invisible here by definition.
