In most cases, Project Managers, Delivery Managers, QA Managers, and Scrum Masters get progressed in the role of the program manager.Â
From what I have seen, it takes around 2-3 years for a program manager to be promoted to senior program manager. In the position of SPM, you are expected to get reporting of 2-3 program managers as well which will prepare you for the next role.
The next role is Principal program manager which gives you the opportunity to look at a complete function and have reported of 5-10 program managers depending on organization size.
The next level is more of a strategic role.
