PMP® Certification ROI Calculator

Is the PMP certification worth it? For most project managers, yes. PMP-certified professionals report a median salary 16–33% higher than non-certified peers (PMI Earning Power Salary Survey), while the all-in cost of certifying is typically $700–$1,200. At those figures the certification usually recoups its cost within the first year of the resulting salary increase. Use the calculator below to estimate your own payback period and multi-year gain.

Cost = PMI 2026 fees + typical training and materials. Uplift = median premium reported by PMP holders vs non-certified peers, PMI Earning Power Salary Survey. Data reviewed September 2026.

How we calculate this

The calculator compares two numbers: what it costs you to get certified, and the salary difference certified project managers report over non-certified peers.

Cost is the sum of PMI membership, the PMP exam fee, the required 35 contact hours of training, and study materials — every figure editable to match your own plan. Default fees reflect PMI's schedule as of 6 August 2026 ($445 member exam, ~$139 membership).

Uplift starts from the median PMP salary premium for your country (PMI Earning Power Salary Survey) applied to your current salary, and you can adjust it. Payback period divides your total cost by the annual uplift; the 3- and 5-year figures are the cumulative uplift minus your one-time cost. Uplift is a market average realised over your career, typically at your next raise or role change — not a guarantee.
